All Hail The Spruce Goose!
One of the highlights of my birthday was getting to visit the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon and seeing one of my favourite aircraft: The Hercules H-4, aka “The Spruce Goose”… which is made mostly of birch wood.
The End of August
It’s been one of our goals to hike Wedge; the steep 7 km hike up 1220 m to Wedgemount Lake & Glacier. The scenery is well worth the hike! Alpine trekking poles are highly recommended; they’ll save your knees on the way down.
We arrived at the lake, just above the clouds that creeped in as we made our way closer to the top. The spectacular view of the lake and glacier in the distance is perhaps my favourite in the Whistler area. After a brief rest and snack we made our way to the end of the lake to explore the edge of the massive glacier where we encountered a few minutes of wet snow falling. The sun broke through the thick clouds a few times to bring some warmth to the chilly breeze and also help make some dynamic photographs.
Hiking Wedgemount was a great way to finish off the month of August and our Whistler summer, as the temperatures have cooled and that feeling of fall is in the air.
